Manifesto
We believe that BDSM/Fetish is a valid expression of human sexuality, worthy of equal protection under law and worthy of being treated within the acceptable bounds of normality by the medical, social and educational establishments. Consenting adults should be able to give free and informed consent to participate in activities affecting only other consenting parties, free of persecution, prosecution, or any other prejudiced interference. The practice of BDSM has no bearing on the fitness of a person to do a particular job or to be a parent.
We maintain that BDSM is an expression of sexuality, compatible with a loving relationship, in which the needs and wishes of all the people involved are paramount. It can use imagery which suggests abuse, but it is by definition consensual. It involves an active process of learning all parties' needs and wishes and respecting them.
We actively oppose public statements in which BDSM, Fetishism and related terms are used as synonyms for any kind of abuse. We aim for the removal of sadomasochism/fetishism and transvestism from the official classifications as psychiatric diagnoses from the International Classification of Diseases published by the World Health Organisation. We are working towards official, judicial, and governmental understanding and support for BDSM/Fetish, and the right to freedom from persecution and discrimination accorded to other consensual sexualities.
