First Aid and BDSM: heat exhaustion
Heat Exhaustion
This is relatively common in hot weather, poorly ventilated rooms etc. It is usually the result of loss of fluid and salt through sweating, vomiting in a hot or humid environment. (Clubs)
- Headache, sickness and dizziness developing Pale, sweaty skin A fast and weak pulse with rapid shallow breathing Muscular cramps Confusion and lowering level of consciousness
The first thing to do is to get the casualty out of the heat and humidity if at all possible. You need to cool them down and re-hydrate them, so give them plenty of fluid. Water is OK, but it's better to use water mixed with salt (one teaspoon per litre.) They should sip frequently at this rather than gulping it all down at once. The fluid loss may well result in shock so lay them down and elevate their legs to increase circulation around the upper body.
Unless they recover completely and quickly, consider getting medical help. If they are noticeably dropping in level of consciousness, call an ambulance.
